The International Opportunity in Network Marketing

One of the keys to amassing great personal wealth is to get in on the ground-floor and buy stock in a startup company. For example, had you bought stock in Microsoft back when it was a startup, you would be incredibly wealthy now. The difficulty, however, lies in knowing in advance which companies will be successful and which ones will not, because very few companies will be as successful as Microsoft. By the time you know which ones are going to be successful, the price of their stock is too expensive and the ground-floor opportunity to make a spectacular profit is over.

The International Opportunity in Network Marketing

Another way to become wealthy is to start your own business. Indeed, as Robert Kiyosaki, the famous author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad, has written, the secret of financial independence is to own your own business. Although starting a business normally requires investing a large amount of money, there is an alternative. This alternative, as Kiyosaki explains in his new book, The Business School for People Who Like Helping People, is to join a network marketing company.

Unfortunately, you face the same problem in joining a network marketing company as you do in buying stock. You have no way of knowing if a startup network marketing company will survive and prosper, or if it will fail and go bankrupt. If you wait until it has become a successful giant, then it will be much harder to build a huge downline because the people most interested in joining the company will have already signed up under someone else.

However, in network marketing there is a little-known way of getting around this problem. Some network marketing companies operate internationally. When one of these companies first enters a new international market, it enters as a startup in that market, and there is great excitement and enthusiasm and new distributors are eager to sign up.

Therefore, if you choose a large company that is already successful, there is little risk that it will fail and go bankrupt. Then, by concentrating on those countries that will be new markets for this expanding company, you can safely enjoy the exciting leverage of joining a startup company and getting in on the ground-floor.

The results can be quite dramatic. For example, in 1992 the vice-president of a major Japanese bank learned that a leading network marketing company was preparing to enter the Japanese market. He resigned his position as bank vice-president and spent the next year organizing a distribution network in Japan. When the company began operations in Japan in 1993, the experts estimated that it would do about $20 to $35 million of business in the first year because all the great multinationals—Coca-Cola, IBM, Xerox, McDonald’s, etc.—had done well under $100 million. However, this company broke the record for first-year sales by any foreign company in Japan—it did $135 million that first year—and the former bank executive cornered half the market for his distribution network.

In 1997 the company earned $599 million in Japan, and he still had half the market. Since this company pays back half of its income to its distributors, this means that in 1997 the distributors in the former bank executive's network earned more than $100 million, and he himself was earnng about a million dollars a month. Obviously this is a highly unusual example, and few people will ever approach that level of success, but this example does illustrate how getting in on the ground-floor can be as valuable in network marketing as it is in the stock market.

Nu Skin Enterprises (NSE) was the company in the above example. The exciting news today is that NSE is continuing to expand into new international markets and the opportunity is still there to get in on the ground-floor. Right now NSE is doing business in over 30 countries around the world and they plan on being in 50 countries by the year 2010. Some of the new markets they are expected to enter before 2010 include China, India, Indonesia, Burma, Vietnam, and Argentina, among others.

NSE is a billion-dollar company that was founded in 1984 and has a 5A-1 Dun & Bradstreet rating. It is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (symbol: NUS) and sells a premier line of personal care products and nutritional supplements. Their personal care products and color cosmetics are sold under the Scion, Nu Skin, Epoch and Nu Coleur labels. Their nutritional supplements are sold under the Pharmanex label.

Some of NSE’s most popular personal care products include FaceLift, Body Bar, Liquid Body Lufra, Nu Skin 180 Anti-Aging Skin Therapy, Nu Skin Galvanic Spa System, IdealEyes, Nu Skin White Cream, Epoch Ava Puhi Moni Shampoo, Nu Colour cosmetics, AP-24 toothpaste, etc. Pharmanex nutritional and herbal products include the LifePak multivitamin/multi-mineral formulation, Cholestin (policosanol), CordyMax (cordyceps sinensis), TeGreen (green tea extract), ReishMax (reishi), BioGinkgo (ginkgo biloba), FlexCreme, and Cortitrol. In addition, through their Big Planet technology division, NSE also offers internet access, advanced website hosting, long-distance services, unified communications, and an internet mall.

In summary, if you live in one of those potential new markets listed above or have family or friends living in one of them, then you now have a unique opportunity to develop a successful business.
