The Amityville Horror

All started on November 13, 1974 at 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, a suburban neighborhood located near Long Island, New York. This day, the police received a phone call about a shooting. They discovered six members of the DeFeo family (father, mother and four children) murdered. Ronald DeFeo, Jr. had shot and killed six members of his family.

In December 1975, a young couple named George and Kathy Lutz visit the house thinking in moving in. They've got married six months later and want to start a new life. Even with the real estate broker advising them about the murders of the DeFeo family, they decide to move to the house with their three children (Daniel, Christopher and Melissa) and the dog Harry.

The rest of the story was told by Jay Anson in his book The Amityville Horror: A True Story published in September 1977. The book turned the house in Amityville in a kind of legend and captivated an entire generation including myself. Jay Anson tells than the Lutzes had only stayed 28 days in the house.

When George Lutz and his family moved on the Amityville house, a friend of him who knew about the DeFoe murders, asked to a catholic priest to bless the house (Kathy Lutz was a catholic, even if non-practicing). The Father Ralph Pecoraro (renamed Father Mancuso in The Amityville Horror: A True Story's book for privacy reasons) came with holy water and started to pray. Suddenly, the catholic priest heard a masculine voice demanding him to "get out."
